Where is the Eastern Shore?
Virginia’s Eastern Shore is on a 70 mile long peninsula that stretches from the Maryland state line to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel--- which connects us to Virginia Beach. Revisit the Google map on my home page to help orient yourself.

Distances to Cape Charles (which is near the southern tip of the lower peninsula):

Norfolk, VA : 45 miles

Richmond, VA : 125 miles

Baltimore, MD : 210 miles

Washington D.C. : 220 miles

Philadelphia, PA. : 220 miles

New York, NY : 330 miles

There are two airports that are easily accessible---one in Salisbury, MD and Norfolk International. There is also a non-commercial airport in Accomac capable of landing private jets.

What about taxes?
Compared to most places taxes are very low. Real estate taxes are approximately 80% of assessed value.

Accomac County is divided into districts. Each district assesses a different personal property and real estate tax. Because the County is revamping the way they assess the taxes, please check directly with Accomac County for individual district information.
A few of the larger towns like Cape Charles and Onancock have town taxes but much of the shore is unincorporated.
